What microcement actually costs in Boise

Microcement is thin. It is measured in millimeters, which means it hides nothing. Every high spot, soft patch, and old repair underneath telegraphs through the finished surface, so the substrate has to be genuinely flat before the first coat goes on.

On a sound, flat, modern wall that preparation is quick. On a wall with failed plaster, six coats of old paint, or moisture coming through it, preparation becomes most of the job. Two rooms of identical size can differ by a factor of two for that reason alone.

Small jobs carry a disproportionate share of fixed cost. Setup, masking, protecting the rest of the house, and mobilizing a crew cost about the same whether the room is 60 square feet or 600.

That is why a powder room often prices near the top of the range per square foot while a large open-plan floor lands near the bottom. If you are considering two rooms, doing them in one visit is meaningfully cheaper than doing them a year apart.

Compared square foot to square foot, microcement and good tile often land in similar territory once labor is counted. The difference shows up later.

Tile has grout, and grout is the component that fails. It stains, it harbors mold, and in a shower it eventually needs regrouting or replacement. Microcement has no grout at all, so the ten-year cost of ownership is usually lower even where the initial numbers are close.

Ask what preparation is included and what happens if they open a wall and find something worse than expected. A quote that does not describe the substrate work is not really a quote.

Ask how many coats, and what sealer. Ask what happens at the junctions and the drain in a wet room, because detailing is where microcement installations succeed or fail.
